Sticking out into Eastern Point Bay (right next to Long Island Sound) is the regal Branford House. This awesome wedding venue is on the University of Connecticut Avery Point campus in Groton, Connecticut just minutes from Mystic and I-95. There is a myriad of excellent locations for Branford House Mansion wedding photos. The front door to the mansion is a great place for family photos as it’s shaded and cooler in the afternoon and easy to get to for grandparents. It’s also a great place for wedding portraits if you have a special vehicle to arrive in! Around the side of the mansion is a terrace area with stone columns that is great for family or bridal portraits when the light is good. What you’ll see here is a real example of how the mansion wedding venue idea can play out. Keep in mind that you’re technically on one of UConn’s campuses, which helps with accessibility.

The Branford House is located in Groton, Connecticut on the campus of UConn Avery Point, which rents it out for events. Branford House was built in 1902 for Morton Freeman Plant, a local financier and philanthropist, as his summer home; he named it after his hometown of Branford, Connecticut. The house was added to the National Register of Historic Places on January 23, 1984. The Branford House wedding era began in 2001 when UConn renovated this CT mansion wedding venue and started renting it out as an event space.

Walk around the side, and you might be able to catch a sailboat going by as well. Just to the side of the lighthouse is a pretty rocky beach area that is perfect for romantic wedding pictures.

As you’ll see in the linked floor plan, the L-shaped Main Room is about 1000 square feet. Then in the 1940s, when Avery Point Lighthouse was built, the United States Coast Guard used the property. They moved out in 1967, leaving the land to the state, which allowed UConn to establish its campus there.

Just behind the mansion is a long patio which is great for mingling or even dancing. This one is partially covered, making it a great location to exchange vows for more intimate weddings. The Athletic Center is open to UConn students, faculty, and staff. The gym and pool are used by our athletic teams, as well as some local teams and leagues. The Center is also available to rent for parties and private events. The Academic Building houses Avery Point's campus bookstore, auditorium, classrooms, and faculty offices.
